RHETORIC SCHOOL 
CURRICULUM

Students in the ninth through twelfth grades have now moved into Veritas' Rhetoric School, where students learn to think, write, and speak persuasively from a Christian worldview. The classroom curriculum itself is organized around three primary practices: Humane Letters, Math and Sciences, and Arts and Languages.

Ninth Grade

Humane Letters: Ancient world history and literature, Epic of Gilgamesh, Iliad, Odyssey, Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, etc. 

 

Math: Geometry

 

Science: Physics and Physics Labs

 

Theology: Prophets & Psalms
 

Language: Choice of Latin or French

 

Art History: Ancient world through Greece

Tenth Grade

Humane Letters: Rome through Medieval periods; Aeneid, Boethius, Augustine’s Confessions, Dante’s Divine Comedy

 

Math: Advanced Algebra

 

Science: Biology and Biology Labs

 

Theology: Historical and cultural context of the New Testament, in-depth reading of the Gospel of Luke; Early Church history and theology

 

Language: Choice of Latin or French

 

Art History: Roman, Early Christian, Medieval, and Renaissance

Eleventh Grade

Humane Letters: Renaissance to Modern History; Paradise Lost, Pride & Prejudice; Frankenstein; Tale of Two Cities, etc.

Rhetoric: Aristotle's "Rhetoric"; compose and deliver several speeches; research and write Thesis paper; Junior/Senior Debate

 

Math: Pre-Calculus

 

Science: Chemistry and Chemistry Labs

 

Theology: Fall of Jerusalem to American Evangelicalism

 

Language: Choice of Latin or French

 

Art History: Mannerism through Modern Art and its contexts
